Tom Reeves
Photographer & Director
Tom Reeves, fourth-generation photographer, runs the studio with his wife Tania. He transitioned to digital photography in 2010 while maintaining traditional techniques. His expertise spans social and commercial photography, with a focus on preserving the studio's legacy.
Edward Reeves
Founder
Edward Reeves established the studio in 1858, pioneering photography in Lewes. He created over 700 studio portraits annually during the 1860s-70s using wet collodion and dry gelatin plate processes. His work laid the foundation for the family business.
Mary Elizabeth 'Pollie' Reeves
Early Photographer
Pollie Reeves, Edward's youngest daughter, contributed to the studio from the 1890s until her death in 1922. She specialised in portrait retouching and studio photography, pioneering female roles in early photographic arts while working alongside her brother Ben.
Benjamin Vinall 'Ben' Reeves
Studio Photographer
Ben Reeves, Edward's son, managed the studio with his sister Pollie from 1905. He expanded the business's scope through technical experimentation and community engagement, photographing local events and civic occasions until his death in 1948.
Edward M Reeves
Third-Generation Photographer
Edward Mitchell Reeves modernised the studio in the 1950s, adopting colour photography and roll film. He maintained traditional methods until the 1970s while developing commercial and industrial photography services, mentoring his son Tom until 1980.
